This level 1 module provides an in-depth introduction to the discipline of performance analysis.
Drawing on the expertise of professionals from the Premier League and Championship, the module provides an insider’s view of the performance analyst’s work. You’ll learn how analysts support coaches and players, and get a sense of how an analyst sees the game.
The module wraps up with an interactive exercise, based on real analysis from a Premier League club. You’ll help the manager work out why a new signing isn’t offering as much of a goal threat as expected.
This module is CPD accredited.

The information you’ll learn in this module was provided by a group of performance analysts with experience in the Premier League, the Women’s Super League, and the Championship. You can visit our Experts page to see a selection of the analysts who have contributed to our courses.
Our award-winning content team worked closely with the analyst group to create a fully-interactive course based on their expertise. Our content team are not only football fans: we have years of experience creating digital learning for football professionals.
This module forms the first part of our Level 1 Foundation in Performance Analysis, so it leads naturally onto the later modules “Asking Performance Questions” and “Opposition Analysis.”
As a standalone module, it’s a great introduction for anyone curious about what performance analysts do, and what skills and knowledge a career in the discipline requires.
This course is not the ideal starting point if you’re completely new to data in football. If you want to find out what types of data are collected in football, why data is useful to clubs, and what professional pathways are available to analysts, these topics are covered in full in the Getting Started course.
