Introduction to Space in Football Tactics

The idea of “space” is fundamental to football tactics. Creating space, finding space, playing in the channels or between the lines: all these tactical approaches are about space.

To analyse football matches, a performance analyst needs to understand how elite coaches and players see space on the pitch.

This level 2 module shows you how the professionals use the idea of space to understand football. You’ll learn how to describe the way a team uses and creates space. Then you’ll see how to use these ideas to analyse opponents and develop your team’s tactics.

The module finishes with an interactive exercise giving you the opportunity to analyse an opposition team’s use of space in preparation for a FIFA World Cup match.
